Navigating PFI Expiry and Transition
P2G co-hosts event to raise awareness of the enormity of expiry challengesP2G jointly hosted a ‘Navigating PFI Expiry and Transition’ event with leading law firm Browne Jacobson in London. With over 40 public sector attendees from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), the Government Legal Department, NHS Property Services Ltd, Local Authorities, Integrated Care Boards and NHS Trusts, the event demonstrated the increasing awareness of the magnitude of the expiry challenge.
Chaired by Adrian Turner of Lagom Advisory and with valuable legal insights from Browne Jacobson, P2G’s James Millar and Matt Reid presented the first session, setting out a clear framework for organisations planning for expiry. Our Jack Banks and Clare Parkinson then joined a panel discussion which unpicked potential legal and commercial risks in the expiry process.
The event provided real value from a technical perspective but, equally importantly, allowed project experiences and learnings to be shared.
Liz Buck, Head of PFI Programme (East), MHCLG commented: “Great to join the PFI Expiry and Distressed Projects event hosted by P2G and Browne Jacobson. The takeaway was unmistakable: start expiry planning early, treat it as a dedicated project, and ensure the right resources and specialist PFI advice are in place. Strong preparation is the foundation of a smooth and successful handback.”
Jack Banks, Partner at P2G added: “We were delighted to co-host this event with Browne Jacobson and to have the opportunity to reinforce the urgency and importance of planning significantly in advance to support successful handovers. Delegates were clearly appreciative of gaining a greater understanding of the legal, technical and commercial challenges that go hand in hand with the expiry process.”
